Chile: the word ‘dictatorship’ soon included in textbooks

The word ‘dictatorship’ (military) could soon find his way in Chile’s school textbooks, therefore replacing the word ‘regime’ (political). That is the recommendation which was made by the National Education Council in reference to General Pinochet who was in power from september 11 1973 (the day of the coup) to march 11 1990. According to the Council President, the measure, which the Council proposed to the Education Ministry, would be applied to school textbooks for children 12-16 years old. A large number of historians from Chile and abroad support such a measure.
