« Too Young to wed » is a shocking photo exhibition about forced marriages of young girls. This multi-media campaign includes documentary photography and videos.
« It is estimated that every year in the world 14 millions of young girls under 18 years of age are married without their consent. There is no escape even for boys although they are much less affected than girls. » (1)
« That kind of marriage affects children (especially girls) most particulary : the United Nations have recognised that mariage under 18 is a prejudice against the child. Child marriage should be seen as a forced marriage given the fact that a child does not have sufficient maturity to give a « real » consent. According to the UN Rights of the Child Committee, forced marriages should be seen as an harmful traditional practice and a form of discrimination linked to gender as well. It is also a violation of the girls sexual and reproductive rights. A girl should be able to choose freely her partner without fearing discrimination, coercitive measures or acts of violence. »
