The Human Rights National Commission (CNDH) has undertaken an awareness campaign on children rights éducation in learning institutions.
During the meetings the students were able to learn the assignments, competences, the functioning of the CNDH and the rights embodied in the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child as well. This treaty sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. There are rights to : i) protection (e.g., from abuse, exploitation and harmful substances) ; ii) provision (e.g., for education, health care and an adequate standard of living) ; iii) participation (e.g., listening to children’s views and respecting their evolving capacities) ; iv) specific protections and provisions for vulnerable populations such as Aboriginal children and children with disabilities.
Speaking of children’s obligations, it should be kept in mind article 31 of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child which underlines the responsabilities of the child concerning his family and other social institutions.
