Senegal : violence against women and children

At the time when Senegal was reviewed during the UPR’s second cycle, Justice minister Sidiki Kaba highlighted the multisectoral policy against genital mutilation and other forms of violence against women and children. He made the point that 4 000 up to 4 500 communities abandoned excision. “We are now focusing ont 500 communities”. He also referred to the recommendations concerning child begging and said that the persons responsible force such a child exploitation will be prosecuted. The minister also emphasised on Senegal’s commitment towards improvement of the rights of children, especially in the field of education. “We have focused on school infrastructures while increasing the gross enrolment rate and proclaiming compulsory education from 6 to 16 years of age”.
