A new measure to strengthen children's rights

A new legal instrument will enter into force in april. It will allow children and their legal representatives to bring a complaint before the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in case of violation of their rights. Costa Rica is the tenth State to ratify the third optional Protocol to the Rights of the Child Convention – which will allow the document to come into effect.

On the 10th of december, on the occasion of the international human rights day, the United Nations have awarded the Human Rights Prize 2013 to the former president of the moroccan human rights organisation, Ms. Khadija Ryadi. This frontrunner, who coordinates a network of 23 non-governemental organisations (NGOs), is the first women of the Maghreb region and of the Arab world as well to be awarded such a prize.
