In Canada, thousands of children are deprived of their right to education

In Canada, thousands of children are denied their rights to free education. Most of the time their parents are undocumented workers. In order to allow those children to attend school, public authorities require school fees even though public compulsory education is free all over the country.  With a few fortunate exceptions though such as the Toronto school board where the « don’t ask, don’t tell » principle was adopted in 2006.

Transparency International has just released a report showing that the sector of education is quite vulnerable to corruption.

France : nearly 6 000 children with disabilities will be deprived of their right to education in special education settings

Due to a lack of space, nearly 6 000 disabled children will be forced to stay at home at the beginning of school year 2013 – and this is most likely the tip of the iceberg only.

In a progress report issued in July 2012 (PDF), senators Claire-Lise Campion and Isabelle Debré have estimated that nearly 20 000 disabled children subject to compulsory education are not attending school.
